Mérida, México

Arrival

Miami (MIA), Dallas Forth Worth (DFW), México City (MEX), and Houston (IAH) all have direct flights into Mérida. Once you land in Mérida, you can take a city taxi to your hotel (~20 minutes.)

For those who plan to visit other parts of the Yucatán prior to our wedding events, keep in mind that Mérida is a 4 hour drive west of Cancun.

Where to Stay

We have an open room block at the Fiesta Americana Mérida, a 5-star hotel.

We've arranged the hotel accommodations to be open booking. There's a deal if you book for our wedding ($120 USD per room per night), but there is no set number of rooms available. As long as the room type with our deal is available to folks who want to stay at the hotel, you can book as one of our guests. We did this so that guests could have flexibility on where they stay.

Transportation to the wedding venue and back to Mérida will be to-and-from the Fiesta Americana. So, keep this in mind if you plan to stay elsewhere.

To book using our rate, please fill out this PDF and send it to rinternet@posadas.com (details in PDF as well) with stormjosh2024@gmail.com CC’d.

You also may choose to explore smaller boutique hotels (Casas, Villlas, etc.) and Airbnbs for a more intimate stay. Please feel free to use the Concierge services to help you book, but remember departures to wedding events will be based out of the Fiesta Americana.

What to Do

Dining & Activities in the Mérida Area

EAT & DRINK

There are tons of amazing Mexican restaurants throughout Mérida. Please note that Mexican food in México will be different from TexMex-type food.

  • If you enjoy seafood, you can expect to eat tons of delicious fresh octopus (and you should eat at the hyper-casual El Marlin Azul.)

  • If you want to taste local cuisine from the Yucatán, have lunch at Museo de la Gastronomia Yucateca.

  • For spot-on Mezcal and Tequila pairings with your dinner, check out Micaela Mar & Leña.

  • If you need a break from Mexican food altogether, eat at any of Oliva’s delicious Italian restaurants.

  • There are multiple vegetarian and vegan-specific restaurants like Vegan Inc.

Across the city you’ll find many bars with different vibes: DIX for drag queens, Salón Gallos for industrial-chic vibes, and La Negrita for a fun local atmosphere.

RELAX

We recommend renting a car for these activities.

Cenotes - natural underground chambers of water - are the best place to cool off in the shade and water. There are dozens across the region. Cenotes are the highlight of the region!

You may also want to visit Progresso beach, a straight shot roughly 30 minutes north of downtown Mérida. You can visit beach clubs like Playa Bonita Restaurante & Beach Club for the convenience of tables, food, drinks, etc.

EXPLORE

Beyond the cenotes and beaches, there is more exploration to do. You can take a day trip to visit Mayan Ruins like Uxmal or Chichén-Itzá (~1.5 hours each way) or find more local ruins scattered throughout the region. You can head west to Celestún to see beaches full of flamingos. You can visit local artisan shops like our favorites, Artesanaria and Taller Maya. You can stop by museums like Gran Museo del Mundo Maya to learn more about the history of the Yucatán.
